Bio

Dr. James E. Teresi is an Assistant Professor, Anesthesia, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and a Staff Anesthesiologist at Sinai Health System, Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH). Dr. Teresi received his education from Undergraduate through to Fellowship in Anesthesia through the University of Toronto and has been engaged in the education of future Anesthesiologists and Allied Health Professionals since his appointment on Staff in the summer of 2000. Key areas of interest include medical education, acute pain management and obstetrical anesthesia. Dr. Teresi was the Director of Acute Pain Management at MSH for fifteen years (2006 to 2021) where he helped advance this aspect of anesthesia through clinical care, education, administrative policies, and leadership. Dr. Teresi initiated the department`s first Quality Assurance Committee at MSH in 2008 and had an active role in multiple aspects of the Renew Sinai projects including Anesthesia components for the Women`s and Infants Health Redevelopment (2007 and 2015), the Surgery and Oncology Centre of Excellence Redevelopment (2010 and 2019), and the design and roll-out of the electronic anesthesia record (2018 and 2020). Dr. Teresi embraces the educational aspects he participates in with his students, residents, and fellows and recognizes that education is a two-way street in that teachers have many opportunities to learn from their students as well. This is one of the main reasons why Dr. Teresi has devoted his career to the Academic environment, a continuous exchange of information, knowledge, experiences, and learning! Dr. Teresi received the Dr. Gerald Edelist Award in recognition of excellence as a clinical teacher in May 2008; A UT Anesthesia Award for Clinical Excellence for being an outstanding Clinician within the Anesthesia community in May 2011; and The Wightman-Berris Academy Individual Teaching Award in Postgraduate Education in May 2016.
