Transitional/Chronic Pain Management (Toronto General Hospital)

Program Description

Transitional/Chronic Pain Management (TGH) Toronto General Hospital (2 positions per year).


This is a 6 to 12 month fellowship offered to Anesthesiologists who are interested in comprehensive pain management. The candidate will work in the Transitional Pain Service Clinic, MSK clinics, and the Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Program. These are multidisciplinary clinics which involve various specialties: Anesthesiologists, Psychologists, specialists in Addiction Medicine, Neurologists, Physiotherapists, Geneticists, Social Workers and Nurse Practitioners. 


The fellow will spend 4 days per week performing clinical duties, which may or may not include working in the operating room one day/week. There are also rotations that include:

  • Cancer non-palliative pain service
  • Addiction Medicine 
  • Physiatry
  • Interventional Chronic Pain program (various anesthetic blocks including fluoroscopy and ultrasound guided techniques)
  • Psychologists-psychiatrists
  • Palliative program and
  • Rehabilitation program (functional restoration program and cognitive behaviour program)
