Anesthesia Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) is an academic research organization (ARO) that specializes in the conduct of clinical trials, including multicentre trials. We are part of the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management at the University Health Network (UHN), Sinai Health System, and Women’s College Hospital, in Toronto, Canada. We provide a range of services, including consulting on, managing, and conducting clinical trials that examine perioperative care, anesthesia, and pain medicine. We specialize in definitive randomized controlled trials – from tightly controlled to pragmatic – but also have expertise in pilot and feasibility studies, observational studies, and linkage to administrative health data.
ACTU was developed to assist researchers who wish to conduct multi-centre clinical trials but lack all the expertise and resources to do so. We provide customized services throughout the research process to meet the unique needs of each study. Depending on the resources and expertise you require for your project, we can consult on the development of study design and processes, review existing processes and documents, or create and conduct the study from the ground up.
Our team includes experienced clinician-investigators and Certified Clinical Research Professionals who will use their clinical and research expertise to ensure all aspects of your study adhere to current clinical research best practices. We have successfully executed multi-centre randomized controlled trials that have impacted clinical practice.
