Sinai Health System

The research program at Sinai Health System has expanded significantly in last several years with new clinician-investigators leading multiple studies that are focused on an ever increasing range of anesthesia related research. These areas of focus include:

  • Airway management
  • Regional anesthesia
  • Acute and chronic Pain Medicine
  • Obstetrical anesthesia- both clinical and basic science
  • Education and simulation
  • Quality improvement including POCUS application and ERAS/ fast-track surgeries.


These multiple new areas of interest have resulted in collaborative projects in which fellows and department members from different anesthesia subspecialties are able to cooperate in areas such as regional anesthesia and QI or, obstetric anesthesia and simulation.


Toronto General Hospital


The Toronto General Hospital (TGH) Anesthesia and Pain Management research program is led by 20 principal investigators to advance research in inter-related areas relevant to anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, critical care medicine, and pain medicine:

  • Transfusion Medicine
  • Perioperative cardiovascular complications
  • Pain (including acute, chronic and transitional pain)
  • Hyperbaric medicine
  • Malignant hyperthermia
  • Perioperative acute kidney injury
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Perioperative fluid management
  • Cardiovascular physiology
  • Health technology
  • 3-D imaging research
  • Prehabilitation
  • Patient safety, health services research and quality improvement

 

The department has several clinician investigators many with formal graduate training with methodological expertise in clinical epidemiology and outcomes research. 

TGH investigators are supported by a team of highly skilled and qualified research personnel, managers, coordinators, clinical research assistants, trainees and research

volunteers.


Toronto Western Hospital


The Toronto Western Hospital (TWH) Anesthesia and Pain Management research program is led by 26 principal investigators to advance research in:

  • Chronic Pain and Neuro-modulation
  • Education and Innovation 
  • Malignant Hyperthermia
  • Neuro-anesthesia
  • Perioperative Anesthesia
  • Regional Anesthesia 
  • Ambulatory Anesthesia 


TWH investigators are supported by a team of highly skilled and qualified research personnel. The research team includes a research manager, three research coordinators, nine full and part time clinical research assistants and four graduate students. Our program is also supported by research volunteers, research interns and a research fellow.   


Women`s College Hospital


The WCH Department of Aesthesia is driving research that aims to improve the quality of patient care. The primary focus of research includes patients undergoing day surgery. The regional anesthesia research program, studies in perioperative medicine, sleep medicine and acute and chronic pain management are the primary area of study.


Our research program is driven by the strength of experienced Investigators and qualified research support staff. The department is committed to mentoring students, residents and fellows in research by guiding and supporting trainees in their pursuit to answer innovative research questions.
