Department of Anesthesia & Pain Management Logo

The Division of Pain Medicine focuses on the delivery of high-quality clinical care, education, and research to advance the field of pain management and to improve the lives of patients in our communities dealing with pain.

Pain can be acute, transitional, or chronic in nature and can affect people from any walk of life, at any stage of their lives. The Division of Pain Medicine aims to provide patients with the education and support needed to improve the quality of their day-to-day physical functioning and mental well-being. We aim to offer evidence-based and innovative treatment options across the multiple pain clinics within the Division.

Our programs are interdisciplinary in nature and the team members may include Anesthesiologists, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialists, Neurologists, Dentists, Addictions Medicine specialists, Psychiatrists, Family Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, and Psychologists. Our clinicians are nationally and internationally recognized specialists in the field of Pain Medicine. Our program offerings include academic subspecialty clinics in neuromodulation, transitional pain, craniofacial pain, pain in pregnancy, pelvic pain and more.

Depending on the type of pain one is experiencing, care is provided on an outpatient basis at a specialty pain clinic based out of Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, or Women’s College Hospital. Our department is recognized for advancing the art of Pain Medicine through education and research innovation.  We currently house the nation’s largest international pain fellowship program with over 5-10 fellows graduating every year.
